Double Demerit Period over the Christmas Holidays

This year, NSW will be running a double demerit period from the 24th of December until the 3rd of January, capturing a large part of the summer holiday break. The double demerit point scheme applies for the following types of offences:

Fines will also be given out for these offences, and NSW Police will have extra officers patrolling the roads during the holiday period. In addition to dedicated Highway Patrol Officers, regular Police can also hand out traffic fines for many infringements. You can lose demerit points from officers, permanent cameras and temporary traffic cameras.

Demerit points can quickly add up and restrict your ability to drive – and a double demerit point period can see your entire licence wiped out in a single drive. The penalties during double demerits for some common offences are:
